Lexington police were dispatched at 2:41 a.m. Friday to St. Joseph East Hospital for a man with multiple gunshot wounds, and five minutes later police received a report of shots fired at Camelot East, 2606 Richmond Road. The shooting happened around the time the bar was closing at 2:30 a.m., according to police.
Mitchell’s death was Lexington’s fifth homicide of 2016.
In July, Mitchell testified for the prosecution in the trial of Deionta Hayes, who was convicted in the March 2012 shooting death of Henry Clay High School student Chaz Black, said Fayette Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney Dan Laren.
Mitchell and another young man were wounded in the 2012 shooting which happened at an apartment on Palumbo Drive. Hayes was convicted of two counts of second-degree assault in addition to the murder count. He was sentenced to 35 years in prison.
