Two arrested on murder charges in University Avenue shooting
Two people have been arrested on murder charges in the Jan. 9 shooting death of Caleb Hallett.
Marquess L. Smith, 19, and another man who was a juvenile at the time of the shooting were arrested Tuesday, according to Lexington police.
In addition to the murder charge, each faces one count of first-degree assault and two counts of first-degree robbery, according to police.
Hallett, 18, and his friend Josh Baker were shot during an attempted robbery on the 200 block of University Avenue, according to police. Hallett and Baker were taken to University of Kentucky Chandler Hospital, where Hallett died.
Arrest warrants were issued for Smith and the juvenile on Jan. 12, according to police. Two other juveniles were arrested earlier, and a fifth suspect, Kenyon Hipps, 21, died in Dayton, Ohio, on Jan. 19 of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
