A Richmond woman is accused of stealing $35,000 over a six-month period from the Kroger store where she worked.
Sarah R. Carter, 28, who worked at the Richmond Plaza store, had taken $1,100 of the stolen money to her husband on Wednesday, according to a news release from Richmond police. Kroger called police Wednesday evening after an internal investigation uncovered the theft, police said.
Carter was at the police station being interviewed about the alleged crime when she took “a small quantity of heroin from her person” and tried to swallow it.
“Officers intervened and recovered the heroin,” the release stated.
Carter was charged with theft by unlawful taking over $10,000, first-degree possession of a controlled substance and tampering with physical evidence.
