Kentucky State Police investigate shooting death in Ohio County

A Rockport man was shot to death Thursday night in Ohio County, Kentucky State Police said.

Police said Daniel R. Easterling, 47, of Rockport was shot at the home of James D. Rogers, 58, on Narrows Road, about 25 miles southeast of Owensboro. Easterling got into a physical dispute with Rogers’ daughter. Rogers tried to intervene but was unsuccessful, and he then got a .380-caliber handgun and fired once at Easterling, police said.

Easterling died at the scene.

Trooper Corey King said Friday that no charges are expected, but the investigation is early. King said the case would probably be sent to a grand jury.

An autopsy for Easterling was scheduled for Friday in Louisville.
