A woman facing multiple charges in Lexington related to an alleged embezzlement has been arrested in North Dakota.

Yarelis Rios, 30, is accused of embezzling thousands of dollars from Thoroughbred Cross apartments on Village Drive, which she managed starting about March 2012, according to an affidavit filed by the U.S. Secret Service.

Police have been looking Rios since 2014 on charges of theft by deception, obtaining a real estate loan by submitting or making a false instrument, forgery and impersonation of a peace officer, according to the Williams County Sheriff’s Office in North Dakota. Rios is originally from Cuba and had been living in Williston, N.D.

Lexington police requested federal assistance because it was an “embezzlement case that had evolved into identity fraud and wire fraud,” according to the affidavit.

The affidavit also said Rios allegedly bought a $425,000 home, expensive vehicles, big-screen TVs, appliances and other expensive items despite a reported annual income of $40,000.

Rios is in the Williams County Correctional Center in North Dakota awaiting extradition to Kentucky.
