Man accused of donation bin theft turns himself in to police

A man accused of stealing a donation jar for disabled veterans and the table it was attached to turned himself in Thursday, Lexington police said.

Police said Wednesday they had an arrest warrant for David A. Kirk Jr., 28, who is charged with first-degree robbery in the theft.

The victim of the robbery was collecting donations for disabled veterans in front of the Wal-Mart at 500 West New Circle Road when Kirk approached the donation table, police said.

Kirk tried to take the jar filled with money; when he found out it was bolted to the table, he picked up the entire table, put it in bed of his pickup truck and drove away, police said.

Anyone with information about the case or about Kirk’s location is asked to call police at 859-258-3600. Anonymous tips can also be called in to 859-253-2020 or submitted at www.blugrasscrimestoppers.com.
