Cynthiana man is charged with assault in Harrison County shooting

A Cynthiana man is accused in the shooting of another man Saturday, Kentucky State Police said Monday.

Gregory A. Kearns, 53, was charged with first-degree assault in the shooting of Thomas Canter, state police said.

The Dry Ridge post received a call Saturday from Harrison County dispatchers about a shooting at 195 Windy Ridge Lane near Connersville, west of Cynthiana. Troopers found Canter inside with a gunshot wound to his left hip.

Canter was taken to University of Kentucky Chandler Hospital and was listed in stable condition, state police said.

Kearns was being held in the Bourbon County jail in Paris in lieu of a $7,500 cash bond.
