A Richmond man has been charged with criminal abuse of a 6-week-old child.

Police were called to University of Kentucky Chandler Hospital on Friday about a baby that had a bruise on its foot and “a bruise in the shape of a hand on the side of its head,” according to a news release from Richmond police.

“Medical personnel indicated that the injuries were consistent with abuse,” the release stated.

Police say Gregory S. Jessie, 36, was caring for the child when the injuries occurred.

He has been charged with first-degree criminal abuse and was being held Monday in the Madison County Detention Center.
