Boyfriend charged with murder after Clay woman dies
The boyfriend of a Clay County woman who died Sunday has been charged with murder.
Alicia Tye, 35, of Manchester, was taken to University of Kentucky Chandler Medical Center early Saturday in critical condition. The coroner’s office said she died at 7:55 a.m. Sunday.
State police said Tye ran from her home to a neighbor’s to get away from her boyfriend, Samuel Cornett, 52, but Cornett went to that home and forced his way in.
Once inside, police said, Cornett fired several shots at Tye.
The Clay County Sheriff’s Office contacted Kentucky State Police at 12:36 a.m. about the shooting on Skull Branch Road.
Cornett was arrested soon after and charged with five counts of first-degree wanton endangerment, murder (domestic violence), first-degree assault and first-degree burglary. Cornett is being held on a $750,000 cash bond, according to the Clay County Detention Center website.
An autopsy on Tye will be conducted this week by the state medical examiner’s office, the coroner’s office said.
