Fire in Clay City investigated as burglary and arson
Kentucky State Police are investigating a fire in Clay City as an arson and burglary.
The fire at 497 Irvine Road happened shortly before 1 p.m. Monday, state police said. A weapon and cash were stolen from the Powell County house.
State police investigators suspect that the fire was intentionally ignited in an attempt to conceal the burglary.
Anyone with information about the fire is asked to call the state police post in Morehead 606-784-4127, or the Kentucky Arson Hotline 1-800-272-7766.
A reward of as much as $1,000 is offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person responsible. You may remain anonymous when contacting the Arson hotline.
One man and a juvenile have been charged in a string of similar crimes in Central Kentucky. Those six fires between April 29 and May 9 received a lot of media attention.
