A Morehead man was charged Wednesday in connection with the stabbing of another man at a community soup kitchen, Rowan County Sheriff Matt Sparks said.
Gary Brickles, 46, was charged with first-degree assault and tampering with evidence, Sparks said.
Brickles is accused of pulling a knife and stabbing Jeremy Madden during an argument at the soup kitchen on Ky. 32 (Flemingsburg Road) west of Morehead, near Rowan County High School.
Madden, who was stabbed in the right chest, was flown to an area hospital, but Sparks didn’t know his condition.

“We haven’t been able to determine what the argument was about,” Sparks said.
Brickles fled on foot from the scene but deputies and Morehead police found him a few minutes later.
Sparks didn’t know if Brickles and Madden were patrons of the soup kitchen. “I know the Brickles guy does farm labor from time to time in the area,” Sparks said.
Brickles was lodged in the Rowan County jail.
