Slain Lexington woman was found after report of gunshots, police say

The homicide victim found behind a Lexington apartment building was identified Monday as Stephanie Anne Mullins.

Mullins, 46, was found early Sunday at 1043 Cross Keys Road, according to the coroner’s office.

Although the death is being investigated as a homicide, the cause of death was still under investigation, coroner Gary Ginn’s office announced Monday.

Mullins’ death is considered a homicide because of the visible trauma and the way she was found, police spokeswoman Brenna Angel said.

Mullins lived in Lexington but did not live at the apartment complex where she was discovered, Angel said.

The coroner’s office listed the the time of death as 7:01 a.m.

Police do not believe Mullins was at the location long before she was found about 6:15 a.m., Angel said. Officers were initially called to the location for a report of shots being fired.
