Lexington man arrested in shooting of his cousin

Lexington police on Sunday arrested Anthony L. Beard, Jr., 26, of Lexington in connection with the shooting of his cousin, who was not named.

About 1:15 p.m., officers responded to the 700 block of Jackson Street for a report of a person shot. Inside a home, they found a 23-year-old man suffering from multiple gunshot wounds; he was taken to a hospital for treatment.

According to police, several witnesses identified Beard as the person who fired the shots; detectives learned that Beard and the victim had gotten into an argument on Saturday.

Later Sunday, Beard was seen walking in the area and detained without incident, police said. Sunday night, Beard was in the Fayette County Detention Center charged with assault first degree and burglary first degree.
