Key connector road on UK’s campus will be restricted to one lane for at least two weeks
A key connector road on the University of Kentucky’s campus has been restricted to one lane because of ongoing construction of the expansion of the university’s South Limestone garage at the corner of Winslow and South Limestone.
A crane is needed to install pre-cast panels on the north face of the garage expansion, which means Winsow Street will be restricted to one lane, said Eric Monday, UK Vice President for Finance and Administration.
The lane restriction, which began Wednesday morning, will likely last at least two weeks, Monday said in a campus-wide email.
Winslow is short but a busy connector road on the north side of campus. Commuters should expect delays and traffic back ups in that area, Monday said.
Winslow will likely be restricted to one lane for a while.
The city of Lexington is about to start a major sanitary sewer line replacement project in that same area. That project will also mean further lane closures on Winslow, Monday said.
That two-mile sewer line replacement is expected to tentatively begin on Feb. 17. But the city and UK are still working out the details of street closures during that project, which is expected to take more than two years to complete.
“During both projects, Winslow is expected to have one lane open,” Monday said. UK’s campus bus system will also be re-routed during the Winslow lane closure.
More details about the sanitary sewer line replacement project and impacts to traffic will be released when the start date and details of that project are finalized, UK and city officials have said.
