‘We are missing you every day.’ Teachers hold car parades to stay connected
In an effort to stay safe but connected during the coronavirus shutdown, teachers at several public schools in Lexington have been driving through their students’ neighborhoods in car parades.
“We’re so excited about seeing our kids today,” Ashland Assistant Principal Brittany Phillips said before the parade.
“Students, we are missing you every day and we want to see you!,” a message from Ashland Elementary staff said in advance of their Thursday parade. “We will be driving around your neighborhood to wave and say hello! We are asking for safety that you come to your porch or sidewalk and wave.”
Julius Marks Elementary staff also planned a car parade on Thursday.
“Come outside and wave hello to JME staff from the safety of your porch or sidewalk as we drive through your neighborhood to spread some cheer,” a message to students said.
Earlier this week, neighbors saw William Wells Brown Elementary staff, honking and waving to students, their cars spray painted with “WWB” and “We miss you!”
