U.S. News ranks 3 Lexington high schools among top 20 in Ky. See others on the list.
U.S. News & World Report ranked three Lexington high schools among the top 20 public high schools in Kentucky in the 2020 Best High School rankings released Tuesday. Dupont Manual High in Louisville was listed as No. 1 in the state.
Statewide, PIkeville High School was ranked No. 7. Somerset High School was ranked No. 12. Lexington’s Paul Laurence Dunbar High School was ranked No. 13 and Henry Clay High School in Lexington No. 14.
Boyle County High School was No. 16. Lafayette High in Lexington was ranked No. 17.
Berea Community High School was ranked No. 20.
Dunbar was ranked the top high school in Lexington in the rankings, with a 92 percent graduation rate and a 47.5 percent rate of college readiness.
The rankings evaluate more than 17,700 public high schools on how well they serve all of their students, regardless of economic or ethnic background, a news release from U.S. News said.
“The Best High Schools rankings provide the most comprehensive, data-based information on nearly every public high school in the country,” Anita Narayan, managing editor of Education at U.S. News said.“Families can use this information to see how their local schools compare on graduation rates and state assessments, as well as academic performance by students who are traditionally underserved –- those who are black, Hispanic or from low-income .”
