Fayette school lawns grow wild during COVID-19. Mowing will resume this week.
Fayette County Public Schools Superintendent Manny Caulk noted this week the unmowed lawns at Lexington’s public school properties during the coronavirus pandemic.
Caulk said Monday he had received an email from a community member who had concerns about the grass at one of the high schools but that district staff would be resuming grass cutting at district buildings, weather permitting.
.District spokeswoman Lisa Deffendall said Tuesday that the district curtailed non essential services during the pandemic, “but have identified precautions that will allow us to resume lawn care services this week.”
“We’ll be back at it,” said Caulk.
Schools campuses have been closed statewide to curb the spread of coronavirus.
The coronavirus has hit the Fayette school district staff hard.
Christy Nentwick, a project manager at the Lexington-Fayette Health Department, said as of April 24, there were 32 Fayette County residents who have tested positive for COVID-19 and who are Fayette school district staff or students.
As of April 24, there were 24 Fayette County residents who have tested positive for COVID-19 and who work as Fayette transportation staff , 19 at Miles Point garage and five at the Liberty Road garage, Nentwick said. At least one transportation staff member’s death is attributed to COVID-19.
