All Fayette County Public Schools will have an NTI weather day on Friday, January 21, 2022 over concerns about “extreme temperatures.”

“During times of extreme weather, the safety of our students and staff is always our number one consideration,” district spokeswoman Lisa Deffendall said Thursday night. “This afternoon, our team assessed street and sidewalk conditions throughout Fayette County. Although city crews have worked around the clock and many roads are clear, we have concerns with rural parts of the county and areas that may freeze with extreme temperatures overnight.”

Deffendall said given forecasts calling for cold temperatures and single-digit wind chills in the morning, district officials are concerned that students would be outside too long if road conditions cause bus delays. Sponsors and coaches will reach out to student groups with specific information on after school and evening activities, she said.

The district also had an NTI weather day Thursday.
