Fayette County Public Schools will be closed on Friday, school district officials announced as Lexington continued to brace for an ice storm.

It will be a snow day. The district will not have at-home learning.

District officials notified parents around 5 p.m. Thursday.

All afterschool and evening activities are canceled.

Madison, Woodford and Jessamine County Schools, in counties that border Fayette, will also have traditional snow days Friday.

Scott County Schools officials said that district would have an NTI or at home learning day Friday as did Model Laboratory School at Richmond.

Fayette and dozens of other districts across the state shut down schools Thursday and Friday in anticipation of a severe winter storm.

Paris Independent Superintendent Stephen McCauley said in a Facebook post the Paris High School gym would be used as an emergency shelter if there are widespread power outages.
