Kentucky education chief, department spokeswoman test positive for COVID

Kentucky Education Commissioner Jason Glass said Wednesday afternoon at a virtual meeting with superintendents that he has tested positive for COVID-19.

Kentucky Department of Education spokeswoman Toni Konz Tatman confirmed Wednesday night that she had tested positive as well.

“So far, we have both had mild symptoms and our recovery process is going well,” Tatman told the Herald-Leader. “As we can see by the number of cases we are still seeing, the virus is not done with us yet. I am certain my symptoms would be worse had I not been vaccinated and boosted.”

Glass is also vaccinated against the virus and boosted, she said.

“If you can hear my voice, it’s a little crackly. I have COVID,” Glass told superintendents.

COVID levels are rising in some parts of Kentucky.

The Herald-Leader has reported that according to the CDC’s latest update, 14 Kentucky counties are considered at “high” transmission levels for COVID-19. Those are Fayette, Scott, Henry, Spencer, Jefferson, Bullitt, Breckenridge, Ohio, McLean, Henderson, Carlisle, Caldwell, Fulton and Campbell counties.
