Rising COVID-19 cases prompt Central Kentucky district to delay first day of school
Due to the rise in COVID-19 cases across the district, Berea Independent Schools is postponing the first day of school to Monday, August 22, Superintendent Diane Hatchett said in a statement.
The first day of school for the district in Madison County had been scheduled for Tuesday.
“Currently due to the rise in COVID cases across the district we would not have all staff present during the first days of school,” Hatchett said.
She said it was in students’ best interest to see their teachers and administrators on the first days of school.
The community spread in Madison County is currently at the “medium” level, according to the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Madison County has reported a rate of 241.97 cases per 100,000 residents over the past seven days, according to the CDC.
