Mercer County Schools are mourning the death of an eighth-grade student.

Griffin Baker, a student at King Middle School, passed away from injuries sustained in an ATV incident, according to a letter sent out Sunday from Mercer County Superintendent Jason Booher.

“Our heartfelt condolences and prayers are with his family, classmates, teammates, and friends during this very difficult time,” the letter read.

Baker’s mother, Stacy Baker, is a bookkeeper at Mercer County Elementary School.

According to the letter, Baker was a great student who loved to play baseball for the school, and also participated in Future Farmers of America.

“He will forever be missed,” the superintendent wrote.

The school will have additional counselors available this week for the students and staff.
