School staff on Wednesday evacuated Paris Elementary School “due to reports of students and staff in a single classroom feeling drowsy,” Paris Independent Schools officials said.

After the Paris Fire Department, the Lexington Fire Department and Columbia Gas investigated, “it was determined that a malfunction in a kitchen hood led to the evacuation,” a statement said.

The necessary repairs were made Wednesday afternoon, officials said.

“We are grateful for the quick response of our first responders and our students and staff remaining calm during this incident,” district officials said.

After the repairs, school was expected to start on schedule Thursday.
