Lockdown, heightened alerts lifted at Tates Creek schools after report of shots fired
A lockdown at Tates Creek Middle School was lifted Friday afternoon after a report of shots being fired near the campus Friday morning, according to Fayette County Public Schools and the Lexington Police Department.
Lexington police said it’s investigating a report of shots fired near the Tates Creek schools campus with the Fayette County Public Schools’ Police Department. Lexington police said no injuries have been reported.
The school district had previously confirmed that Tates Creek Elementary, middle and high schools were on heightened alert after a “nearby incident,” though no information was immediately provided on what the incident was. Officials confirmed that the middle school was placed on lockdown just before 11 a.m.
Just after 12:15 p.m., officials said the lockdown and heightened alert measures were lifted.
“No students or staff have been injured,” said Lisa Deffendall, a spokesperson for Fayette County Public Schools.
Lexington police said it’s an ongoing investigation and anyone with information should contact Fayette County Public Schools’ Police Department.
