9 preschoolers on Head Start bus that wrecked in Eastern KY. No major injuries reported.
A bus with nine preschool students on it crashed in Wolfe County Thursday morning, but no major injuries were reported, an official said.
“There were nine children on the bus and there were no major injuries reported,” said Chris Holiday, the Head Start director for Middle Kentucky Community Action Partnership.
Some parents took their children to the doctor as a precaution, but no one had reported injuries by 2 p.m., Holiday said. The accident occurred between 8 and 8:30 a.m. on Landsaw Road at Campton, Holiday said.
The cause of the accident is unclear, he said. There were no other vehicles involved.
“We’re just putting together all the facts,” Holiday said.
In light of Thursday’s accident and a previous public school bus accident in Magoffin County that caused injuries, Gov. Andy Beshear was asked at a Thursday news conference if he would support school bus safety legislation during the 2023 General Assembly that began this week.
Beshear said he was not aware of such a bill.
“We’ve got to learn from every accident, from every tragedy,” said Beshear.
He said he had worried that seatbelts were not on Kentucky school buses.
“I hope that we will ultimately learn facts ... that will ensure that other kids never have to go through something like that,” Beshear said.
