Fayette school board agrees to interview District 1 candidate whose application was lost
The Fayette County Public Schools board on Tuesday evening was in closed session after agreeing to interview a candidate whose application for a vacant seat on the board was lost by the district.
Jerome Higginbotham began meeting with the board shortly before 5:30 p.m. It was unclear if the board would fill the vacancy Tuesday night.
Higginbotham did not comment prior to his interview.
The board also planned to interview the three other candidates for the seat — Marilyn Clark, Edward Dixon and William Swope Jr. — Tuesday night.
With the resignation of former District 1 board member Christy Morris in November, the remaining four school board members are responsible for filling the vacant seat.
District 1 is in west Fayette County and pulls from areas between Leestown and Harrodsburg roads.
The application for Higginbotham, a carpenter for Phase IV Contractors, was lost a few weeks ago by the school district.
Fayette County Public Schools Superintendent Demetrus Liggins said in a news release Friday that a paper submission from the additional applicant was lost.
“An application was dropped off at the front desk of the district administration building on the last day of school before winter break,” Liggins said. “Unfortunately, we have been unable to locate their paperwork anywhere in the building.” Dec. 23. was the deadline for submissions.
This is a developing story.
