A 17-year-old Lexington high school student died Tuesday night when her car struck a tree on Athens-Boonesboro Road in Clark County, according to Clark County Coroner Neal Oliver.

Kaylee Goodman died late Tuesday night, Oliver said.

Andrea Tinsley, acting principal at Lexington’s Paul Laurence Dunbar High School, sent families a letter Wednesday saying that Goodman was a senior and the school had suffered “a devastating loss.”

“Kaylee was known for her kindness and her ability to connect with others, and her absence will be deeply felt by her teachers, friends, and classmates,” the letter said.

This is a developing story and may be updated.
