Fayette County Public Schools Superintendent Demetrus Liggins received mostly accomplished and one exemplary rating in his newly-released annual evaluation from the school board.

However, board members noted they want Liggins to continue strengthening his communications with the school board and the community, as well as using data to impact student achievement.

The possible ratings are ineffective, developing, accomplished or exemplary.

He received accomplished ratings in:

  • Budget/Finance
  • Human Resources
  • Teaching/Learning
  • School Safety/Climate
  • Management
  • Communication
  • Public Engagement
  • Leadership and Culture
  • Board Relations.

He received an exemplary rating in Equity and Student Achievement.

In comparing this year and last year’s evaluation, Liggins dropped from exemplary to accomplished in leadership and culture and board relations.

He improved from accomplished to exemplary in equity and student achievement.

This was Liggins’ second year serving Fayette County Public Schools. Board members said it was a year that has seen many advances, changes and growth.

Liggins’ 2022-23 evaluation recognizes his collaborative skills and the supportive culture growing within the district, a statement from school board chairman Tyler Murphy said.

The statement said Liggins is a skilled communicator, with the genuine ability to share his vision with others, moving it towards meaningful action with “data supported outcomes.”

“We appreciate the fact that change does not happen overnight and requires intentional actions. We firmly believe that Dr. Liggins embraces these challenges, daily, with passion and commitment,” the statement said.

“While we all agree there is still much work to do, we continue to be encouraged that the positive work that has already started will continue for the betterment of our community and the children and families we serve,” Murphy said.

In response, at Monday’s school board meeting, Liggins said he looked forward to a continued partnership.
