The Fayette County Board of Education on Monday voted to purchase 22.2 acres of land at 900 Newtown Pike in Lexington for $6.6 million matching the appraised value, district officials announced.

The land was owned by Lexmark, according to Fayette County Property Valuation Administrator records.

The vote was unanimous. District officials did not immediately say what specifically the land would be used for.

“As a growing district facing significant land challenges, the Board seeks strategic investments to meet future needs,” the news release said. “This sizable tract on the Lexmark Campus could serve purposes such as a school facility or daycare for FCPS faculty, ensuring the district remains well-positioned in this dynamic market as it prepares its new facility plan.”

An online ad for the property said it has frontage on Newtown Pike.
