Nicholas County Superintendent Doug Bechanan said Wednesday the district denounces racism after an individual recently “posted a racially toned comment directed at a staff member.”

Bechanan also posted on Facebook:

“The Nicholas County School District is deeply saddened and troubled regarding a recent racially directed social media post. While this originated outside our organization, let us be clear, racism has no place in our schools or community and we will continually condemn any form of hate directed to our staff or students.

Our dedicated staff works hard every day to provide a loving, safe, and supportive environment for all our students. As school is about to begin may we be unified as we seek to accomplish this goal.”

He didn’t provide additional details to the Herald-Leader.
