Kentucky middle school staffer arrested after she allegedly showed up to work drunk

A Kentucky school staff member was arrested less than one week into the school year after allegedly showing up to work drunk, according to the Elizabethtown Police Department.

Prior to the beginning of school Tuesday, an administrator at TK Stone Middle School in Elizabethtown noticed a situation with a staff member, according to the Elizabethtown Independent School District. Chris Denham, the public affairs officer with Elizabethtown police, said the staff member, Tamara Mouser, appeared to be intoxicated.

The school resource officer made contact Mouser and confirmed the administrator’s suspicion, according to Denham. The school district said she was effectively removed from the school and addressed the issue.

“I commend the staff of Elizabethtown Independent Schools for their swift action in addressing the situation, ensuring the safety of all students and faculty,” Denham said in a statement. “Ms. Mouser was not directly responsible for the care of any students this morning between her arrival on campus and the time of her arrest. The quick response of school staff and our SRO allowed for the incident to be resolved without further disruption.”

Classes started at the school in Hardin County on Aug. 14.

Mouser was arrested and charged with public intoxication, according to Denham. The school district said she resigned from the school immediately.

Elizabethtown police is handling the investigation into the incident.

“We are proud of our long relationship with EPD and we work with them to ensure the continued safety of our students,” the school district said in a statement.
