A Pulaski County teacher who wanted choir students to get invited to the upcoming presidential inauguration was “overzealous” in her attempt to get President-Elect Donald Trump’s attention with a song called “Trump It!,” the district superintendent said Monday.

Superintendent Patrick Richardson said he was told there was a video of students performing the song in class on the social media platform TikTok, but had not yet seen it by late Monday afternoon.

The Northern Middle School Choir has performed for Democratic Governors Steve Beshear, and his son Andy, Richardson said.

“In 2016, the middle school choir was asked to sing at the presidential inauguration for President (Donald) Trump. She put in to go to the Biden inauguration, but the choir did not get chosen,” said Richardson. “The teacher thought it would get President-Elect Trump’s attention because of its quirky little beat.”

The intent of the song was to get invited back to the upcoming presidential inauguration, said Richardson.

“The timing to introduce the song was not in good judgment considering that it was immediately following the election. The teacher has been addressed about the inappropriateness of the situation.,” Richardson said.
