Several Kentucky school districts cancel in-person learning amid first snow of the season

Several Eastern Kentucky school districts canceled in-person learning Friday as the region saw its first snowstorm of the season.

Classes were canceled altogether at Morgan County and Perry County schools, while a slew of other districts moved to learn-from-home, or what’s known as non-traditional instruction.

Among districts that canceled in-person learning were: Wolfe County, Bell County, Floyd County, Harlan County, Harlan Independent, Jackson Independent, Jenkins Independent, Knox County, Leslie County, Letcher County, Magoffin County, Middlesboro Independent, Pike County and Pineville.

Much of Eastern Kentucky saw 1 to 2 inches of snow beginning Thursday morning, while some areas higher in the mountains received more, according to the National Weather Service.

Snow is expected to taper off Friday morning, but another round of precipitation will move through the area on Friday afternoon, according to the NWS. Most areas will see rain, but some could get more snow.

High temperatures in Eastern Kentucky are expected to range from 37 to 44 degrees Fahrenheit on Friday.
