Fayette schools has no plan to move SCAPA high school program from Lafayette
While Fayette County Public Schools officials are discussing renovating or providing a new building for Lafayette High School, there is no plan to pull the School for the Creative and Performing Arts’ high school program from Lafayette, said district spokesperson Dia Davidson-Smith.
On Monday, a local planning committee discussed moving SCAPA’s nearby fourth- through eighth-grade building, on Springhill Drive, to make room for a potential Lafayette expansion. But the high school program will stay on Lafayette’s campus, Davidson-Smith said.
It’s not yet clear where the fourth- through eighth-grade students would move if the district approves a relocation.
“The (Fayette schools ) board has not made a final decision on any of these issues. The next step for the committee is to report their recommendations to the board,”Davidson-Smith told the Herald-Leader Tuesday.
SCAPA is a program for students who excel in art, ballet, band, contemporary dance, creative writing, drama, piano, strings and voice.
To be eligible, a student must have documentation and an audition in the chosen arts area.
