Lexington 5th grader wins Christmas card contest with snowy scene, snacking reindeer

Fifth grader Elena Duan’s artwork featuring a snowy scene with six reindeer gathered around a plate of treats is the Fayette County Public Schools’ holiday card contest winner.

Elena is a visual arts major at SCAPA at Bluegrass.

Candidates for the elementary school-level winners were submitted to the district, and Superintendent Demetrus Liggins chose the winner.

In addition to art, Elena enjoys reading, crafting and origami, the district said. She also plays violin and piano and performs Chinese dancing.

The other finalists were Josue Gonzales, Northern Elementary; Caroline Davies, Glendover Elementary: Ella Buckler, Sandersville Elementary; Logan Hawthorne, Julius Marks Elementary; Majorith Perez Mendez, Coventry Oak Elementary.
