After nearly a month away from school for winter break and weather cancellations, Fayette students are headed back to in-person learning Thursday.

“FCPS is excited to have students back in school for in-person learning on Thursday, January 16, 2025. It has been nearly a month since students and teachers were in the classroom together,” said district spokesperson Dia Davidson-Smith.

“Roads are still slick in spots, and we encourage everyone to use their best judgment and take it slow and easy. Patience is also asked of our drivers, as they attempt to navigate very large vehicles, carrying children, monitors, and themselves, safely to and from school.”

“We appreciate city crews helping in the effort to clear streets, however, because of low temperatures overnight, there might be some refreezing,” district officials told families in a message. “We are asking our school bus drivers to use their best judgment when accessing roads and neighborhoods, so please be patient with us as we prioritize everyone’s safety.”

After a major snowstorm dumped about seven inches of snow and some ice on the ground, Fayette students had four traditional snow days last week and three at-home learning, or non-traditional instruction days. this week.

Some parents have been upset about a lack of coordination between the city and school district and the cancellation of in-person learning.
