The day after the Fayette school board approved another four years of Superintendent Demetrus Liggins’ leadership, the parent who wrote a petition against renewing his contract posted a message on Facebook:

“As we look ahead to four more years under Superintendent Liggins’ leadership, I would like to encourage parents and stakeholders to continue to listen, stay informed and ask questions,” Rachel Buser wrote Tuesday. “Holding our elected representatives and school officials to account is a thankless and time-consuming task, but one in which we must remain steadfast. I’ve never believed that more than I do now. “

Buser, in the post, addressed the personal attacks made against her during the petition drive.

“Not only are they absolutely and unequivocally unfounded, but they provide a disservice to ALL involved. This approach reinforces a fear of questioning those with whom we disagree and replaces conscious debate with emotion,” she said.

Buser thanked all those who “supported the petition and continue to fight for transparency and accountability.”

Another parent had countered Buser’s petition with a petition supporting Liggins.
