Sneak peek: What the exterior of Lexington’s new Henry Clay High School could look like
A newly released rendering of what the exterior of Lexington’s new Henry Clay High School could look like is on the Fayette school board agenda for Monday night’s planning meeting.
The renderings are in construction documents by Tate Hill Jacobs Architects in Lexington. They say the new building will be constructed while the old building on the same Fontaine Road property is still occupied with students.
The renderings depict the north visitor entrance and the east drop off, pick up entrance.
Construction on the new school building is planned to begin in early June 2025 and to end in April 2028. It will be ready for students in August 2028.
Demolition of the existing building and construction of the new baseball and softball fields is set to start in June 2028 and continue through 2029. The estimated cost of the project was $185.6 million as of October.
The Herald-Leader reported in February that the first stage of constructing Lexington’s new Henry Clay High School — removing brush and trees — has begun.
The school moved from East Main Street to its current Fontaine Road facility in 1970 and underwent a renovation in 2006.
The current aging building had been the subject of environmental complaints and parents have been asking for a new building.
The building construction project will be funded through a bond issue.
The Fayette County Public Schools board is being asked to approve construction documents this month.
