Three Fayette schools are getting new principals. Superintendent sees ‘great things’
Two Fayette elementary schools and a middle school are getting new principals, effective July 1. Here’s what to know.
Clays Mill Elementary: Emily Greene
Emily Greene is the new principal of Clays Mill Elementary. Greene, who has 13 years of experience, has served as assistant principal at Glendover Elementary since 2022.
“We look forward to the excitement Ms. Greene will bring as she builds relationships with families, students, and staff at Clays Mill,” said Superintendent Demetrus Liggins.
Greene’s areas of strength include leading professional learning communities, reviewing data, and communicating with staff and families.
Greene holds a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education and a master’s in Education from Concord University. She previously taught in West Virginia and was a technology and gifted/talented teacher at Eastern Kentucky University’s Model Laboratory School. In Boone County Schools, she served as district STEAM coordinator and assistant principal at Burlington Elementary.
Greene replaces Principal Grant Davis, whose new role will be districtwide elementary director of Teaching & Learning.
Leestown Middle School: John Moore
John Moore is the new principal of Leestown Middle School.
Moore, who has been the principal at Ashland Elementary for five years, brings 13 total years of experience with FCPS, and he looks forward to partnering with the school community to build student-focused opportunities that inspire high achievement.
“John Moore is a highly respected leader in FCPS and will bring his passion for educating students to Leestown. I expect great things will happen for students and staff,” Liggins said.
Prior to becoming principal at Ashland, Moore was a classroom teacher at Booker T. Washington Elementary, where he held several leadership roles. He also worked at Coventry Oak Elementary, where he was a positive behavioral interventions and support coach and later an administrative dean. Moore has served as a Safe Crisis Management trainer for FCPS since 2019.
Moore has a History degree from the University of Louisville and two master’s degrees: one in Education from Midway College, where he earned dual certification in K-12 learning behavior disorders and social studies, and another in school leadership from Georgetown College.
He replaces Principal Joe Gibson, who is retiring.
The next principal at Ashland Elementary has not yet been named. There is a principal selection process that will be followed to make that determination, district spokesperson Dia Davidson-Smith said Friday.
Mary Todd Elementary: Angela Miller
Angela Miller is the next principal of Mary Todd Elementary, where she has served as assistant principal since 2020. She has more than 25 years of experience in education and eight years in Fayette County Public Schools.
“Ms. Miller brings many experiences as an educator, and I expect great things will happen for Mary Todd’s students, staff, and families,” said Liggins.
Miller previously taught special education at the elementary, middle school, and high school levels in Clark County. She joined FCPS in 2017 as a support specialist for secondary schools.
Miller holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology, a master’s in moderate to severe disabilities from the University of Kentucky, and master’s degrees in director of special education and educational leadership from Morehead State University.
She will take over for Principal Michael Jones, who is retiring from Mary Todd.
