The University of Kentucky Police Department is investigating an intentional vehicle fire that took place behind Memorial Coliseum over the weekend, according to a notice sent Monday evening.

On Sunday, June 8, campus police received a report of a vehicle on fire located behind Memorial Coliseum, the arena for UK women’s sports teams. The fire was put out with the assistance of the Lexington Fire Department.

A preliminary investigation indicates an unknown subject approached a parked Nissan Altima and intentionally set the car on fire, officials said. UK Police and the UK Fire Marshall’s Office are investigating. UK’s spring semester ended May 9.

The UK campus crime log reports the incident occurred shortly after 4 a.m. on Sunday.

The notice was sent in compliance with the Clery Act, which requires colleges and universities who receive federal funding to notify the campus community of crime and serious threats.
