Fayette Co. elementary school has a new principal with ‘vision and heart.’
Brittany Walker, the assistant principal of Lexington’s Ashland Elementary School, will take over as principal of the school July 1, according to a new release from the district.
Walker has been an assistant principal at Ashland since 2024 and has more than 13 years of experience in Fayette County Public Schools.
“Ms. Walker is a passionate, student-centered leader,” said Superintendent Demetrus Liggins. “With a career rooted in service across multiple schools, she is aptly equipped to lead Ashland with vision and heart.”
Two years before joining Ashland, Walker was a school-based instructional coach at Northern Elementary, where she focused on high-yield strategies and rigorous, relevant learning opportunities for students. Previously, she taught third grade for 10 years at Harrison and Garrett Morgan elementary schools.
Walker has a bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Tusculum University, a master’s in instructional leadership from Eastern Kentucky University, and an education specialist (principalship) degree from the University of Kentucky.
Walker replaces Ashland principal John Moore, who will become the new principal at Leestown Middle School.
