A Garrard County school bus driver died Monday afternoon in a single-vehicle crash.

The crash happened on KY 1295, near Hurt Lane, said the Garrard County Sheriff’s Office. No students were on board at the time, school officials said in a statement.

The driver, Steve Moore, 64, of Lancaster, was pronounced dead at the scene by Garrard County Coroner Shane Young.

Monday was the first day of school for the Garrard County School District.

“Steve Moore was more than just a bus driver — he was a trusted member of our school family whose dedication and kindness impacted generations of students. Our hearts go out to his family during this incredibly difficult time,” said Superintendent Kevin Stull.

The cause of the collision is under investigation.
