  • Around 6,000 students will move into University of Kentucky housing Aug. 17–20.
  • UK will enforce parking restrictions and temporary one-way streets during move-ins.
  • Campus bus routes will adjust schedules, with delays possible from added traffic.

Around 6,000 new and returning students are expected to move into University of Kentucky residence halls early this week.

The on-campus move-ins will take place from Aug. 17-20. The university said to expect significant impacts to parking, traffic and campus transportation while the move-ins are taking place.

There will be several no-parking zones on Avenue of Champions, Martin Luther King Boulevard, Lexington Avenue, Huguelet Drive, University Drive, Avenue of Trees, Hilltop Avenue, Pedestrian Walkway, Woodland Avenue, Sports Center Drive and Complex Drive during the move-ins.

The no-parking zones will be in effect from 12:01 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily until Wednesday.

The following streets will be turned into one-way streets from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. during the move-in days: Martin Luther King Boulevard, Lexington Avenue, Avenue of Champions, Huguelet Drive, Hilltop Avenue, Woodland Avenue Sports Center Drive and Pedestrian Walkway.

In a Facebook post, the Lexington Police Department encouraged motorists to drive carefully around campus.

“Make sure to allow extra time to get to your destination safely and be patient if you encounter traffic or other delays,” Lexington police said.

The campus blue and white bus routes also will change during move-ins. The white route will primarily cover the central campus area, while the blue route will travel around the west part of campus from Kroger Field to Limestone and back.

The buses will run from 6:45 a.m. to midnight move-ins and return to their regular routes once move-ins are finished. The orange route will not be affected, but could experience longer service times because of the increased traffic.

Capilouto to greet students moving in

UK President Eli Capilouto will greet new students moving into Pigman Hall on Monday afternoon. UK cheerleaders, the UK Athletics’ Wildcat mascot, administrators, faculty, staff and student volunteers also will join Capilouto in welcoming students to their residence halls at 1 p.m.
