Shelby County High School was on lockdown Wednesday morning after a bomb threat, but Superintendent Joshua Matthews said all students are safe and there was no immediate threat as of mid-morning.

Matthews provided the information in a Facebook video taken at the high school that appeared to have first streamed shortly before 10:30 a.m.

“Everybody’s fine,” he said. “All the students are safe.’

Matthews said the lockdown would be called off as soon as the police “go through their process.”

Additionally, the school district released a statement on Facebook that said: “As we continue to work with local law enforcement, we want to provide consistent updates for families. We still believe there is no immediate threat to our students’ safety.

“Out of an abundance of caution, Shelby County High School will remain on Lockdown, Rocket Lane schools will remain on Soft Lockdown, and all other SCPS schools will remain on High Alert. We will keep you updated on the situation.”

Matthews said “high alert” meant that there would be extra patrols at other school campuses. An earlier letter to parents said there had been a bomb threat, that law enforcement was on the scene and there was no immediate threat to students.
