Kentucky State Police are investigating a “possible hazing incident” involving the McCreary Central High School football team, authorities told the Herald-Leader on Thursday,

“We have an ongoing investigation into that situation,“ said Trooper Jonathan Houk, the public affairs officer at the Columbia post. Houk said KSP received the report Aug. 29.

“It is reported to have occurred on or about Aug. 1st of this year. It is an investigation into a possible hazing incident,” he said in an email.

“The incident is reported to have occurred in Casey County, but I’m not sure if it was at a football camp or not. The investigation is still in its early stages, and at this point, I can only confirm allegations of hazing,” Houk said.

Casey County is in south-central Kentucky.

District officials were mum about the specific allegations but said Friday they were ensuring accountability and were prioritizing student safety.

”While we can not comment on specific allegations and ongoing investigations without violating the law, we want the community to know that we are actively working to support our students, protect our students, support their well-being and ensure accountability,” said school board attorney John Blevins.

“Our top priority remains centered on our students’ safety and well-being. I want the community to rest assured that we will use all the powers available to us and report all incidents as required by law to protect our students and we will thoroughly and promptly address all issues affecting students in our district,” Blevins said in an email to the Herald-Leader.

Kentucky High School Athletic Association Commissioner Julian Tackett told the Herald-Leader Friday, ‘We have not received any information other than that the matter has been referred to KSP. The school has acknowledged the investigation but we have not received any other information at this time.”
