A Kentucky school employee was accused of bringing a gun to school Thursday, said Leslie County Schools Superintendent Brett Wilson.

The employee was accused of bringing a gun to the school grounds at Stinnett Elementary in Essie. Wilson wrote in a Facebook post that the school’s resource officer and the Leslie County Sheriff’s Office were immediately contacted to investigate.

Officers did not find any evidence to suggest the employee brought the gun into the school, Wilson said. However, the employee has been placed on leave while the investigation continues.

“We understand the concern this may cause and appreciate the swift response from our law enforcement,” Wilson said in the Facebook post. “We also want to reassure our school community that at no time was a threat made to any student or employee.”

Essie is about 130 miles southeast of Lexington.
