A driver who police say was under the influence was arrested after a crash involving a school bus in Northern Kentucky.

Twelve students and one bus monitor were on the Campbell County Schools bus when it was hit by another vehicle on U.S. 27 South near Spillman Drive in Campbell County at 2:28 p.m. Friday, the Alexandria Police Department said.

One of the students was taken to a hospital with minor injuries, police said.

The driver of the vehicle that hit the bus, Donald M. Weinel, 42, of Newport, has been charged with 14 counts of first-degree wanton endangerment, one count of operating a motor vehicle under the influence (aggravating circumstance) and one count of first-degree criminal mischief.

Weinel was being held in the Campbell County Detention Center.

“Operating under the influence is a serious offense. We will continue to be vigilant in detecting and enforcing impaired driving,” the Alexandria Police Department said in a social media post. “We are grateful no one was seriously injured during this incident. Thank you to Campbell County Schools, Campbell Fire Rescue, and Campbell County Police for their assistance during this incident.”
