In anticipation of the wintry weather forecasted for this weekend, all school activities, athletics and community partner events scheduled in Fayette County Public Schools buildings on Saturday, Jan. 24, and Sunday, Jan. 25, are canceled.

Kentucky is under a winter storm warning, with the entire state expected to be impacted by severe winter weather in the coming days.

The snowstorm is expected to begin between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. for Central Kentucky and last until 8 p.m. to midnight Sunday, Jan. 25 into Monday, according to the National Weather Service. Snow showers will be heaviest between Saturday afternoon and Sunday evening, and 3 to 14 inches or more are expected for the entirety of the state.

District officials said they were closely monitoring weather and road conditions.

A decision about whether in person classes will be in session Monday, Jan. 26, will be announced Sunday afternoon.

Transylvania goes virtual Monday

Due to the winter storm, all Transylvania University classes will be virtual Monday, officials said in a social media post.

Saturday’s basketball doubleheader on campus has been moved to Friday at 5 p.m. for the women’s game and 7 p.m. for the men’s.
