Will Fayette schools be out for an 8th straight day? Decision may come in the morning

Fayette County Public Schools leaders plan to decide by 5 a.m. Wednesday about whether to have in-person school on Wednesday, Feb. 4.

Tuesday’s classes were canceled, as were afternoon and evening activities due to ongoing weather and road conditions.

FCPS has had seven straight school days without in-person classes. The district used nontraditional instruction days Jan. 26-29, and used traditional snow days Jan. 30 and Feb. 2-3.

Only March 20 has been designated as a make-up day for students so far, according to the district.

Superintendent Demetrus Liggins said at a school board meeting Monday that the district has to make careful decisions about using snow days compared to NTI days, because the district loses significant money when using NTI days.

Improving road conditions has proved difficult for the city.
