Fayette County Public Schools will have a snow day Thursday, Feb. 5, citing continued unsafe road conditions on school bus routes.

The snow day marks the ninth straight day the district has canceled in-person classes after several inches of snow and ice fell on the region Jan. 24 and 25.

Temperatures in Central Kentucky have remained below freezing since then, and many city roads are still covered in ice.

“Safety is first,” said district spokesperson Miranda Scully, noting that district officials are eager to have students back in the classroom.

A decision about afternoon and evening activities Thursday has not been made yet.

FCPS has used four nontraditional instruction, or NTI, days (Jan. 26, 27, 28, 29) this school year, and Thursday will be the eighth snow day (Dec. 2, Dec. 12, Dec. 15, Jan. 30, Feb. 2, Feb. 3, Feb. 4, Feb. 5).

Only March 20 has been confirmed as a make-up day for students.
